‘Saahas Samanvya’ relates to the district jail, Dehradun. Here, we focus in the areas of vocational training and pursuit of development program; its advocacy, outreach, capacity building, industrial knowledge exchange and market research. These go in tandem with generating advisory on equipment enhancement, product design & development, processes and communication. The effort is to pull together all these different strands into promoting the jail workforce as a vibrant vocational unit in its own rights.
Project Burans works towards identifying prison inmates who evince signs of being in a state of mental distress. In particular, identifying those from amongst them who are in need of special medical attention that requires diagnosis and treatment. Such as, for instance, those afflicted with severe mental illness, epilepsy, etc.
Tendering Psycho-social Support is an integral part of the Foundation’s endeavour here. Building in-house knowledge and skills in mental health, including active listening-counselling is a part of the project.
The emphasis is on developing awareness among prison staff pertaining to support and recovery of inmates – and also, perhaps, advocacy aimed at beefing up access to mental and physical health care services of district jail resources to some measure of adequacy.
