We hear and read a lot about ‘dignity of labour’. What does it really mean though? At Saahas, this phrase takes on a new meaning in the context of our efforts to promote humane values and shared empathy. As we engage with fellow citizens who live a life tinged with challenges, it becomes extremely important to educate ourselves in regard to communicating and respecting the value of human dignity and labour.
It’s time to rethink beyond the emptiness of words and transfer our thoughts into action for the present-day working people. It is time to overcome class barriers and inculcate the spirit of the ‘dignity of labour’ among ourselves by shining a light on those who are recognised to be the most vulnerable amongst us. Let’s give our true respect to the persons with special needs who achieve a sense of dignity and self-worth each day that is filled with purpose and labour.
We at Saahas Foundation believe in the ethos of work and in helping each other. We perform tasks ourselves, especially those that make us more responsible and independent. We engage in setting up the office ourselves; fixing trunks; creating racks and taking care of planters with pride and joy. We train ourselves to ‘declassify’ jobs, engaging in all kinds of work. This also serves as a realization of the diversity of work and culture and helps make life easier by learning new skills and in being self-reliant.
This appreciation of work done honestly and with pride is very significant towards the recognition of each and every one of us who contribute to society in their own special way.
