‘Saahas Bhumiveer’ is an initiative by Saahas Foundation Inclusive Resource Centre for community participation in times of need as in natural calamities such as the COVID-19 pandemic. This arm of our organization is mobilized as and when required. Our project management skills and operational expertise is deployed to combat socio-economic effects on the vulnerable and marginalized sections of society in times of crisis, and this initiative is a reiteration of our stated goals of community integration and ally-building to help these particular sections. This includes adults with special needs who form the core constituency of our organization.
Currently ‘Saahas Bhumiveer’ encourages participation for both immediate and long-term relief and rehabilitation service amidst the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, and its efforts are targeted towards the outlying rural areas of Dehradun district in Uttarakhand. This pandemic has emerged as a form of universal human suffering beyond comprehension, impacting human lives deeply, especially those amongst the marginalized sections of society throughout the world. We are threatened not only by the rate and scale of its contagion but also with the way it has enforced restrictions on our daily lives and the uncertainties it has generated about the very future of the world as we know it.
It does, therefore, demand a greater level of adaptive and positive response at such times. Any measure that also utilizes all kinds of tools of mass media including supplies, community radio and medical relief, and social rehabilitation, in context to the state of Uttarakhand, works as a force to mitigate the suffering of the common people most impacted by the pandemic. ‘Saahas Bhumiveer’ hopes to help towards this effort in an effective and helpful manner.
Wave – I: relief work during the COVID 19 outbreak focussed on identifying persons with disabilities and other vulnerable population, facilitation dry ration parcels to the affected households.
